Yesterday in London’s Green Park the Queen unveiled a new memorial to the servicemen of the RAF’s Bomber Command who served during World War II. As part of the ceremony, the Lancaster Bomber scattered 82,000 poppies from the sky in tribute to the 55,573 airmen who lost their lives.

November 11th
Remembrance Day has always been a big deal for my family. My father was a history teacher, and would frequently act as a guide for other historians visiting significant WWII battlefields in France and Belgium. Every year we would go to the cenotaph in my home town and lay a wreath of poppies in remembrance for the men who died serving our country.
At 11am today, there will be 2 minutes of silence. Please observe it.
