The key to good decision making is not knowledge. It is understanding. We are swimming in the former. we are desperately lacking in the latter.
Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking | Malcolm Gladwell
A new goal for this year is to read a book, any book. Just finished Blink by Malcom Gladwell and this is my review:
It’s like when you call up your banks customer assistance line because you’ve received a notice saying your replacement card has been sent and you are confused because you did not request a replacement card and you dont live in Canada which is where the replacement card is being sent to. That feeling when they inundate you with the automated recordings for what seems like forever but you know you have to stay on the line before you get bounced to an actual person. You want to get to the end, to speak to a live person, but the automated messages just never, never end regardless how long you keep waiting. This book was “chatty” that way, however the sections detailing Van Riper and the Millennial Challenge as well as Sylvan Tompkins and interpreting facial expressions were enjoyable. But seriously, why is my credit card being sent to Canada, eh?
Going to look for another book now..
Mark Peters and friends encounter an unexpected surprise while albacore fishing off the coast of Santa Cruz, California. Pacific white sided dolphins playfully hitch a ride behind their fishing boat.

Ed note: Should dolphins have human rights? The idea isn’t as crazy as you might think.

Retouching: THE OPERATORS
We have developed a remote-controlled “underwater photographer” that can hold its breath for the duration of the Olympic Aquatic competitions at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
At first we looked into available underwater robotic heads to buy in order to save time in developing a new system. We couldn’t find anything that would fit our underwater system requirements, that would be good for a news agency, easy to use and reliable.
In the end we decided to look beyond standard underwater photography and contacted a few off-shore and oil-platform companies to ask them how they operate underwater with their systems when it comes to pictures and videos.
