Color signatures of novels’ visual content by Jaz Parkinson. More. Looks like it may be possible to order prints, and even make requests!
(I just finished reading The Road and I can’t believe there is even THAT much color.)
You have all made my life. These are my colour signatures, an ongoing collection which are basically graphs of all the visual content in the books. For example when it might say ‘yellow brick road,’ ‘yellow’ gets a tally, or when for example in The Road it says ‘dark ash covered everything’ (not an actual quote), that image evokes dark grey instantly in the mind, so dark grey gets a tally. They are then ordered into a spectrum and drawn up, so the result is a surprise to me until it is done. I was shocked at The Road as well! A lot of the colour is fire, and when they finally find some food the book describes ‘juicy glistening peaches,’ which is so visual after pages and pages of grey.
A2 Prints on gorgeous enhanced matte are available, and I am more than willing to take a request to add to the collection.
Thanks for all your support! Love you guys.

2013: Live brief for The Times newspaper
I was briefed a live project from The Times newspaper to create 3 double page spread to celebrate the 150th anniversary for the London Underground. The requirements for the brief was to create a timeline presenting the history of the Underground from when it first opened to it’s present day and to include infographics based on the facts and findings of the Tube. This project was a challenge for myself seeing as I hadn’t done any fully focused infographics projects so it was nice to try something different. A designer for the Times even visited the studio to have a look at our work and give us some constructive criticism - scary!

“The Fault in our Death Stars”
So I had this idea ages ago, but I never really got started on it.
Earlier this month, I finally did and it turned out great! :D
So I’m saving this graphic for May 4th, but now I find out #thefaultinourdeathstars is already a thing?!?Oh well. I guess there’s little point in keeping it from you, then…
Anyway, I was on a roll, so this also happened:

iTunes was, of course, and I’ll say this now, brilliant. It single-handedly taught us an entirely new philosophy on software design. Do you really need that Preference that 1% of your users will use? Can you find a better way to design that interface than having each function in a separate window? Can you clean this up, even if it means it’s a little less flexible? iTunes blazed the trail for clean, efficient software design for a broad audience, a design philosophy we practice actively today. It was a way to take a complicated digital music collection, and make it easy. Sure, it was limited, but man was it easy.
