The STS-119 crew captured these dramatic images of the International Space Station on March 19, 2009 as Discovery flew around the orbiting complex after undocking.
The discovery could be a clue in the fight against cancer.

Both the Challenger and Columbia were later destroyed in flight. The book contains an incredible wealth of photos, illustrations and in-depth diagrams.
The moon is framed between the Orbiter’s OMS pod and the Earth limb over the Atlantic Ocean as seen from the aft windows onboard Discovery on mission STS-95.
Stanley Kubrick on the set of 2001: A Space Odyssey. A giant centrifuge/Ferris wheel (seen here) was built for the set of the main compartment aboard the Discovery spacecraft. It was thirty-eight feet in diameter and about ten feet in width at the widest point. It rotated at a maximum speed of three miles per hour and had built into it desks, consoles, bunks for the astronauts and tomb-like containers for their hibernating companions. Kubrick monitored scenes shot inside of the centrifuge via closed-circuit television.

The shuttle is actually a little bizarre to see in-person —this thing was in outer space — and up close it looks like huge portions of the craft are covered in a gauze-like substance.
With the end of the shuttle program last year, NASA is beginning to retire the fleet of its most iconic creations. We have a look at the final flight of the space shuttle Discovery as it is flown to its final destination at the Smithsonian Institution in Virginia.

All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them.
Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought.
