Still unsure of “phoneography” having a place in the professional sphere? On March 31, 2013, The New York Times used an Instagram shot for the front page cover story.
Granted, it was a professional photographer who took the photo, but it’s quite a statement nonetheless. Perhaps you really should sign up for those Photojojo University Phoneography 101 classes…

Spotlight: Amsterdam
Since launching, we’ve seen Instagram spread from our headquarters in the Bay Area to every corner of the globe. In this series, Spotlight, we’ll highlight top users from countries and cities with thriving Instagram communities.
The Netherlands’s capital city, Amsterdam, is alive with sights and sounds. Hundreds of thousands of bicycles weave across the 1,281 bridges that span the city’s many canals. Amsterdam is lush with parks, classical architecture and plenty of museums that make it one of the most important art sites in Europe.
Want a first-person tour of Amsterdam? We put together a list of some amazing Instagrammers from in and around the city.
- Freek Geurts, the city through the seasons — @regalphis
- S Fennema, atmospheric shots and reflections — @sfennema
- Dirk Bakker, Amsterdam through patterns and lines — @macenzo
- Phil, film-inspired stills of daily life — @p_d_y
To explore the city in depth, you can also browse the location pages for some of Amsterdam’s most popular landmarks:
- De Riekermolen, one of Amsterdam’s most photogenic windmills
- The Rijksmuseum, home of the most important collection of classical Dutch art
- Magere Brug, one of the many beautiful drawbridges spanning the canals
- Amsterdam ArenA, home to Amsterdam’s football team, AFC Ajax

Instagram’s Newest Filter: Mayfair
Yesterday’s update to Instagram included a wonderful new filter, called Mayfair! It has a warm pink tone, subtle vignetting that brightens the center of the photograph, and a thin black border. Mayfair works great with evenly and well-lit scenes in conjunction with the Lux feature.
Instagrammers have been taking beautiful photos with Mayfair, and we’ve selected a few exceptional ones to highlight here. Don’t forget to share your photos with the hashtag #mayfair!

What’s happening to Instagram now is what happened to Facebook in about 2011: It’s becoming a site that depends as much on the rest of the world than on the US, if not more. Southeast Asia is where the most growth is coming from.

The Instagram Situation
I’m currently hunting for iOS alternatives to Instagram.
From now on no matter what, I’m always going to upload all my photos to Flickr.
Some unedited photographs will continue to pop up here on tumblr, but I’ll be posting edits as usual.
I guess that means I’ll use any Photo editing app.
I do still want the social networking aspects that I enjoyed IN Instagram, just not ON Instagram.
So I’ve made a list. And I’ve signed up to a few.
This is why - changes to Instagram’s Privacy Policy & Terms Of Service
I don’t particularly want to have a private account.
Instabook, sorry, Facegram, apologies again…

Instagram? Listening?
Decided:
All my photographs will (eventually) be at Flickr where I’m thest
I’ll circulate edits of my photographs on:
& Backspaces where I’m st
(also looking into Google+)
I’ll be editing my photographs in
Camera+ & PhotoForge2 & Google Snapseed
But I’ll always keep these just filters just in case:
Unless it gets a divorce from Facebook I’ll be deleting my Instagram in January.

Instagram’s Newest Filter: Willow
Yesterday’s update to Instagram placed a beautiful new filter, Willow, into the hands—and photographs—of all Instagram users, and it’s been a big hit!
Willow is a monochrome filter with subtle purple tones and a translucent glowing white border. It looks exceptionally beautiful when used over portraits, still lifes, landscapes and architectural photographs.
We’ve selected a few exceptional Willow-filtered photos to highlight now that many Instagrammers have had a chance to utilize it. Don’t forget to share your photos with the hashtag #willowfilter!

Technologically, building such filters would not be impossible, Mr. Wegener said, but he hasn’t done so yet. He said the notion reminded him of the film “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” a quirky romantic comedy in which the main characters wipe away any traces of their past relationship, and presumably, the trauma inflicted.

Awesome Timehop article. Personally, I like even the painful memories. My Timehop reports go back seven years, and sometimes the pain is healed enough that Timehop nudges me to reach out again on a long lost friend. It’s been cathartic and rewarding.
