John Gulliver Hancock is working on a new book called All the Buildings in New York.

This cataloging of buildings has “become an almost ritualistic undertaking, a therapy of sorts, helping me to organize the overwhelming infinity and chaos of New York into something I can know and understand.”

Tamara Staples was a shy young woman with a camera when her Uncle Ron invited her to come with him to a chicken show.

The Fancy, as chicken breeders call such gatherings, are the pinnacle events for breeders looking to show off their prize poultry.

Staples, taken by the elevation of the common bird to runway supermodel, hatched an idea that day to return with her camera to another show and photograph what she’d seen.

Twenty-some-odd years later she is still consumed by the birds and explores them in her new book, The Magnificent Chicken: Portraits of the Fairest Fowl.

In an era when chickens are celebrated in pop culture, hipster hot-sauce bottles, and backyard farming, Staples describes her project as unique in showing how chickens can be more than just food.

The bearded Belgium D’uccle Mille Fleur Bantam Cock in the first image and the others that follow, seen here through Staples’s camera lens, appear proud and aware.

Color signatures of novels’ visual content by Jaz Parkinson.  More.  Looks like it may be possible to order prints, and even make requests! 

(I just finished reading The Road and I can’t believe there is even THAT much color.)

You have all made my life. These are my colour signatures, an ongoing collection which are basically graphs of all the visual content in the books. For example when it might say ‘yellow brick road,’ ‘yellow’ gets a tally, or when for example in The Road it says ‘dark ash covered everything’ (not an actual quote), that image evokes dark grey instantly in the mind, so dark grey gets a tally. They are then ordered into a spectrum and drawn up, so the result is a surprise to me until it is done. I was shocked at The Road as well! A lot of the colour is fire, and when they finally find some food the book describes ‘juicy glistening peaches,’ which is so visual after pages and pages of grey.

A2 Prints on gorgeous enhanced matte are available, and I am more than willing to take a request to add to the collection.
